Description

Piston Scalers are used for many different surface preparation projects. They can be used to remove heavy rust, cement, scale, paint or industrial coatings from metal surfaces. They can also be used to rough concrete prior to resurfacing. The pistons used for these applications range from standard steel (TX-00146) to carbide tipped (TX-00150) or REXALLOY® which is a solid cobalt alloy (TX-00151). Please note, solid cobalt alloy pistons (TX-00151) should not be used for concrete surface preparations. It has been found that silica in concrete causes heat buildup in the REXALLOY® pistons which in turn causes the pistons to wear more rapidly. REXALLOY® pistons should ONLY be used on metal surfaces and primarily for their spark resistance. OSHA Regulations for Dust Collection (Standard 1926.1153) apply to all occupational exposures of respirable crystalline silica in construction work. Exposures to respirable crystalline silica occur when tools such as chipping hammers, rivet busters, paving breakers (Jackhammers) and hydraulic boom mounted breakers are used on concrete, brick, block stone, mortar and other materials that contain crystalline silica.

The Texas Pneumatic Dust Collection Systems are designed to comply with the standard. Our TX-DCS3 will work for all chipping hammers, rivet busters and hand held paving breakers. The TX-DCS6 is for larger applications such as boom mounted hydraulic breakers.
